Strategic Environmental Assesment(SEA)

According to the EC Directive concerning Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA Directive) as part of the approval it was required to asses the effects of the Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007 - 2013 on the environment and to prepare an Environmental Statement.

The SEA process throughout the programming of the Baltic Sea Region Programme started in June 2006, by the submission of a scoping report in which environmental issues, objectives and indicators relevant to the environmental assessment were identified and submitted to the national environmental authorities in the participating countries. On the basis of comments received an environmental report in November 2006 was drafted and provided a first environmental assessment of the Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007-2013.

Finally the Environmental Statement summarising how environmental considerations have been integrated into the Operational Programme was adopted. It consists of an Environmental Report including a non-technical summary and information on the consultation process and can be downloaded below.

Also in the future the recommendations will continue to be taken into account during the implementation of the Programme, i.e. in the formulation of selection criteria and the monitoring of project implementation. The likely environmental effects of the project activities will form part of the overall continuous project monitoring methodology.
