Rainer has graduated in economics and holds a Master degree in Slavonic languages and history of Eastern Europe from University of Kiel. For many years he worked for the State Government of Schleswig-Holstein and the Unit of Foreign trade of the Ministry of Science, Economic Affairs and Transport of the Land Schleswig-Holstein.
Starting from January 2008 Rainer takes the role of the Audit Authority and chairs the Group of Auditors for the Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007-2013. The Audit Authority verifies the effective functioning of the management and control system of the programme and ensures sample audits of projects. The Audit Authority is assisted by the Group of Auditors comprising representatives of the participating countries.
